Powers of Ten
Chris, Beau, Ashley, Richard, and Elliott go all noir-y to cut down this sequel in an audio review “replete with negotiable virtue” as Richard would say.
If you’re a racist, or a teenage boy, and most importantly if you’re a misogynist, you’ll love this movie.
nah, they portray her as white because she was white.
Next they’ll demand history books to be re-written in order to not be racist.
Wait, I think they’re already doing that.
Cleopatra was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty, who were Macedonian Greeks who served Alexander the Great before his death. Because they followed the Egyptian custom of marrying siblings they had little to no actual Egyptian blood in them. Thus having an actual Egyptian woman portray Cleopatra would be historically incorrect.
I laugh at people who don’t know Cleopatra technically wasn’t even Egyptian.
People believe what coincides with their opinions.
I knew she was white but I didn’t know she wasn’t actually Egyptian. Hmmph. The more ya know
WHITE PEOPLE FOREVER PRETENDING THAT EVERYONE WHO IS CONSIDERED “WHITE” NOW WAS “WHITE” FOREVER AGO
Cleopatra’s mom probably was African—black sub-Saharan African on her mother’s side if she and her sister Arsinoe had the same mothers. They shared the same Greek/Macedonian father. Check out the article, BBC NEWS | Also in the news | Cleopatra’s mother ‘was African’. See the uTube video, Cleopatra’s sister Arsinoe had African ancestry - YouTube. Egyptians and Nubians in ancient times had been marrying one another, say most archaeologists.
The only problem is scientists found Cleopatra’s sister having African features, but don’t know whether the two sisters had the same mother. Cleopatra also had two brothers. And the scientists conclusion is based on African skull shape from drawings of a skeleton found in a tomb in Ephesus, Turkey assumed to hold the bones of Cleopatra’s teenage sister, Arsinoe.
I mean it’s not like the damn Egyptians painted her as being a brown-skinned woman or anything
^ Fuckin thank you
Same argument that never fails to amuse me. Oh so they just painted themselves brown cause they wanted to be tanned?
Get the hell out of here.
She wasn’t black or white, she was BROWN! Yay!
Turning point in #Ferguson? Police drew guns on Hip Hop artist/activist Talib Kweli & others, threatened to shoot last night. (Above) Kweli observes police were in rush formation BEFORE the water bottle was thrown at them. Major questions being raised about identity of individual who threw water bottle— possibly an agent provocateur, someone working for police to either invite riot or provide “justification” for police to assault a peaceful protest. (Left) Activist Phil Agnew, who is in Ferguson, says protesters are being depicted inaccurately. (Below) Example of an agent provocateur: notice the protester being tackled to the ground by police is wearing the EXACT SAME SHOES the police in uniform are wearing (?!?!) #mikebrown
However you feel about this movie, those fucking words are noting close to what the movie is. And fuck rottentomatoes.
This has been updated with a statement from the St. Louis County Police Department. Greater St. Mark Family Church in St. Louis, Missouri was a safe haven for wounded protestors from nearby Ferguson demanding justice in the Michael Brown shooting….
Living far away from this event, just in the neighbouring North, I feel rather helpless, powerless, and have practically zero influence and means to aid whatsoever in a truly effective manner.
However, this event should still not be simply ignored by people such as myself, the young, the distant, financially dependent (hell, general LIFE dependant).
I WILL watch, study, pay attention, keep myself updated from as many sources as I can find. I will “try” to look at it from both sides (even though Ferguson police so make it hard). For whatever happens, however this conflict may be resolved if ever, it will certainly affect how I choose to make a difference and contribute in the future.
Stop calling what’s happening in Ferguson a “riot”.
It is not a riot.
Vancouver losing the Stanley Cup a few years ago was a riot. It was angry, drunken destruction with no purpose. (And as a Canadian, it was a shameful event)
Ferguson is not a riot. It is a protest. It is an uprising. It is a civil rights revolution. The prople of Ferguson may be angry, but they have a reason to be angry, and they are not violent, and they are not hooligans, thugs or looters. They are protesting for their human rights which are currently being denied.
Look at the difference between a riot and a protest. A riot is chaos. A protest has a purpose.
